SHAZAM, Inc., a nationwide provider of financial services to community banks and credit unions, announced today it made a $10,000 donation to the Greater Greenfield Community Foundation to support those affected by the Greenfield, Iowa tornado.

SHAZAM is making its donation in honor of Union State Bank CEO and SHAZAM board member Peg Scott. Union State Bank is a member of SHAZAM with a branch location in Greenfield. The bank prides itself on serving their customers’ best interests and takes an active role in building up their community.

SHAZAM is one of the only member-owned debit processing and core services providers in the United States. Members, like Union State Bank, have a vote and voice in the direction of SHAZAM’s future. The membership structure creates a partnership where both parties are invested in the progress and prosperity of community financial institutions.

“Our members are also our partners,” says President and CEO Paul Waltz. “Supporting our partners during times of hardship goes beyond providing financial services to our members and their accountholders.”

Authorities announced five people were killed and at least three dozen were injured because of the violent tornado that tore through southwest Iowa last month. Storm surveys conducted by the National Weather Service confirmed EF-4 tornado damage in Greenfield with peak estimated winds of 175 to 185 mph.

The people of Greenfield will need help rebuilding for a long time. Anyone looking to help during the initial stages of disaster relief through a monetary donation can do so by the following:

  • Donate online at greenfieldiafoundation.org. Click on the Greenfield tornado relief fund link to donate directly through PayPal®. Please note “Greenfield tornado relief” in the donation drop down.
  • In person at Rolling Hills Bank & Trust in Adair and Stuart or Exchange State Bank in Adair. Anyone paying by check should make it out to Greater Greenfield Community Foundation noting “tornado relief” in the memo line.
  • Union State Bank has additional information on how people can help on their Facebook page.

“We understand how local financial institutions make a difference in their communities,” says Waltz. “Our donation stems from our mission and history of supporting those financial institutions who are dedicated to helping their community and serving their neighbors.”
